Parasailing

Phuket Tourist Information Guide

Read Introduction

If you don’t know what parasailing is: it’s where you have a parachute strapped to your back and you jump off a pier, or you run down the beach as a rope attached to a boat pulls you high over the Andaman Sea, sometimes as much as 400 meters off the water! If the boat maintains a steady pace and the wind is calm, you’ll float effortlessly along for kilometers while enjoying fantastic views of the Phuket coast. Parasailing is also called ‘parakiting’ or ‘parascending’ in some locations. The cost is around 1,000 Thai Baht for only five or ten minutes.

Parasailing anywhere in the world is considered potentially dangerous, and there have been accidents on Phuket fairly recently. Make sure your vest is very secure and there isn’t much wind. If there is a storm on the way, save your thrilling excursion for another day. Weather moves fast in Phuket, and what sometime looks like a storm an hour away, may arrive in ten minutes. Staff should be very experienced and should teach you a few hand signals which you can use to signal discomfort or danger.

Where can you enjoy parasailing in Phuket?
Patong Beach is probably the hub of parasailing in Phuket, but you can also find operations on some other beaches such as Bangtao, Rawai, Kamala, Karon, Kata and Coral Island.

Be aware that health insurance rarely covers risky endeavors like parasailing. Do your research and decide if the risk is worth the thrill. Although it’s quite a thrill!
