It’s no secret that the Thai’s love to eat, with hundreds of restaurants on every city street offering a wide range of local and international cuisine, it’s pretty obvious that food plays a major role in the Thai culture. Those who have visited Phuket before also know that finding a restaurant with a good selection of food that is well prepared and at a reasonable price is pretty hit or miss. One of our favourite and top recommended restaurants is Ohlala in Kamala. It not only hits the trifecta of diverse menu, well executed dishes and reasonable prices, it also has the added bonus of having some of the friendliest staff on the island!

Located just 15 minutes southeast from Kamala Beach sits this unique and welcoming restaurant. With it’s bright yellow sign, eclectic mix of wooden furniture and take out pizza, it’s easy to see why Ohlala has become one of the most popular dining spots in the area. Established in 2005, it has received a 5 star rating from the Phuket Food Hygiene Hospital as well as the TripAdvisor certificate of excellence for the last two years running. Their large diverse menu is printed in 3 languages (Thai, French and English) and all their food is cooked in rice oil as opposed to the standard palm oil you’ll find almost everywhere else.

Ohlala offers a wide variety of Thai and international cuisine, including favourite dishes from central and southern Thailand, specialty dishes from northern Thailand, classic French dishes and Swiss dishes such as fondue and rosties. They even have a few specialty dishes that they are famous for in Phuket such as their Mookata (Thai BBQ) and our personal favourite the Tam-Tam, which is an array of different fillings (choose from potato and cheese, cheese veggie and wine or mookata) baked in a clay pot and topped with a thin layer of pizza dough that gets crisp as you bake it. All menu items are freshly prepared and served as they are cooked, ensuring your food arrives hot.
