Kathu Waterfall

There are lots of fun and exciting things to do while in Phuket: you can take in a show, tan on the beach or get your drink on at one of the many bars and clubs on the island. For those who wish to do something a little more adventurous and daring we suggest visiting the Kathu Waterfall.

While it is the lesser known and least visited of the 3 waterfalls in Phuket, it is by far the most unique. Differing from the normal stone base, tall cliff face and strong heavy current that empties into a pool below, Kathu Waterfall is much more. With a large pool to swim in at the bottom, 3 daunting levels perched atop a rocky hill that gently gets steeper as you ascend and refreshing drop pools to cool off in as you go, it’s definitely a great place to spend a day with the family.

The first level is quite beautiful, with a strong current that cascades down the rocks and settles into one of the cool drop pools. Perched atop 130 meter staircase and nestled in the shade of the trees, it is the easiest platform to get to.

The second level is a bit harder to get to though still accessible to anyone willing to try. The path is made from concrete and leads its way up to the second drop pool as you go deeper into the thick of the trees. Though not as big as the first level it is not without its charm.

The third and final level is the most difficult to get to. With only a dirt path to follow it can be quite the hike. The drop pool is much smaller than the first two levels but the beautiful scenery and heavy foliage make it well worthwhile.

The waterfall is located in Kathu and close to many other tourist attractions such as Phuket Wake Park and the unique and entertaining Palazzo. The best time to visit Kathu Waterfall is during rainy season, between the months of June and November, to ensure the cascades of full, however be sure not to visit while it’s actually raining as it can become quite slippery and dangerous.
