Karon Viewpoint (Khao Saam Haad)
While it’s true that Phuket boasts some of the most spectacular views and plenty of viewpoints, the sights from here (Kata/Karon) are some that stand out most in our mind. Probably the most well known and definitely the most confusing is Kata Viewpoint (recently changed to Karon Viewpoint), this stunning viewpoint offers breathtaking vistas of the 3 beaches below.
Although it is a complete mystery as to why the name has been changed to Karon Viewpoint, especially considering the viewpoint itself is located in Kata, some will argue that since you can see Karon Beach from here the name change is not completely unreasonable. Located south of Kata Noi Beach in the Kathu District and locally known as “Khao Saam Haad” (three beaches hill) this famous and very popular tourist spot is sure to delight everyone in the family.
As mentioned above, Karon Viewpoint gives you a spectacular view of Kata Noi, Kata Yai and Karon beaches along with the breathtaking eight kilometers panoramic that exposes the true beauty of the tropical Andaman, the sparkling white beaches as well as the stunning view of the nearby Koh Pu (Crab Island). The scene to the south is just as awe-inspiring with its candid views of Phuket’s lush green rolling hills and the endless blue sky that drift out to sea.
With a large parking area to accommodate tour buses, cars and mopeds as well as large lanes on either side of the street for roadside parking when things get really busy, ensuring you’ll find ample space for even the largest party of visitors. There are also plenty of vendors peddling classic Thai street fares and cold drinks as well as the usual touristy trinkets.
Once you have finished here we suggest a quick trip down the coast towards Nai Harn Beach. The winding mountain road offers a new perspective on the sights you have just discovered, and there are several wonderful authentic Thai restaurants along the way for those looking for a touch of local culture and customs.
