Rang Yai Island | Koh Rang Yai

Rang Yai Island (aka Koh Rang Yai) is a small forty square meters private island just off the eastern coast of Phuket. Located approximately 5 km from Boat Lagoon Marina, this jewel of an island is one of Phuket’s most desired tourist spot.

Nameless for almost 70 years, this little island became a favorite fishing spot for the locals, mainly due to its abundance of Lang Fish, and as such adopted the name Rang Yai Island, a name it still holds today.

This peaceful island is covered in coco palms and pine trees with many foot paths and trails for walking or hiking, as well as, on it’s western side, a one kilometer long white sandy beach that is perfect for swimming or sunbathing.

Bought in 1990 by the Richy Island Phuket Co. Ltd., it was operated as an ecotourism business. It was later discovered to be an excellent source for pearl mining and is now registered as one of Phuket many pearl farms. Operating under the name Phuket Pearl Farm, it produces top quality pearls which are distributed all over the world. Be sure to check out one of the live demonstration showing how pearls are cultivated, harvested and then turned into beautiful piece of jewelry.

Activities to partake on Rang Yai Island include mini golf, volley ball, darts, hiking, mountain biking and sea canoeing. The island is also an excellent spot for snorkeling, especially along the headland rocks. If you are feeling hungry there is a small cluster of bars and restaurants set in the cool shade of the trees.

Koh Rang Noi

Koh Rang Noi is a short 6 kilometers from Phuket’s premiere Royal Phuket Marina and is a beautiful tropical paradise, built on 25 Rai. Koh Rang Noi is a tribute to Thai artisans of all kinds. Everywhere you look there is a Thai mural or some Thai sandstone carvings. Some of the lights were fashioned from the original Thai shadow puppets and the decor is a sight to behold. Indeed an entire village were carving art for months and the doors and headboards are a marvel to behold.
