Lawa Island | Koh Lawa

Tourist Attraction Lawa Island, Phuket, Thailand

Lawa Island | Koh Lawa in Lawa Island is just km (or minutes) away from Bismarcks Paradise Phuket luxury villas resort.

Lawa Island (Koh Lawa, Lawa Yai) is part of Phang Nga Province and is the bigger of two islands together known as the “Lawa Islands”. Lawa Yai (Lawa big) is about one kilometer long and half-a-kilometer at its widest point. The island has almost 2.2 km. of coastline, and just 280,000 Sq. m. of land area. To the northwest two kilometers is the southern point of Phang Nga province. Phuket Island is west almost 8 km. Go east 10 km. and you’ll hit one of Krabi Province Khao Yao Noi’s smaller islands. Lawa Noi Island lies southeast by 1 km. and is not even a kilometer long and almost half-a-kilometer at its widest point.

The Lawa Islands are part of the Ao Phang Nga National Park. Both Lawa Islands are covered with trees and the coasts have some sandy beaches, especially at Lawa Yai.

To get to Lawa Yai Island, you can go by longtail or kayak over calm water from Phuket’s Laem Sai Pier on the far northeast corner of the island.

Sea kayaking tours are popular, Lawa Yai and Noi are part of tours by the “Sea Cave Canoe” company (seecavecanoe.com). This is a relaxing way to see the islands and the best parts of nature Thailand has to offer.

Other than kayaking, activities on the Lawa Islands are limited to whatever you bring by boat; kites, snorkel equipment, flying disk, football, board games or books! There are no jet skis or diving at this island. Lawa Island is great for one thing – total relaxation. Bring a towel, a picnic lunch and make this one of your stops as you tour other islands in Phang Nga Bay, or make it your only stop and unwind from the stress of life.

There are no accommodation or places to eat on the Lawa Islands as the island is too small. Instead, you can choose one of the many places close-by to stay in Phuket and just travel out to the islands by boat.
