Bangla Boxing Stadium

Tourist Attraction Patong, Phuket, Thailand

Bangla Boxing Stadium in Patong is just 36.1 km (or 54 minutes) away from Bismarcks Paradise Phuket luxury villas resort.

Thailand is known for many things, from beautiful beaches to world renowned dishes such as Pad-Thai. One of the most notable things Thailand is known for is the vigorous and entertaining sport of Muay-Thai or Thai Boxing. A sport that takes incredible discipline both mentally and physically. While Thailand is famous for this full contact sport, Phuket is equally known for it’s stadiums that house the events such as the Bangla Boxing Stadium. Here you will see enthralling match after match of well trained boxers fighting for the honour and prestige of being number one.

Located on Sai Kor Road, just across from the Banzaan Market, fits this impressive two storey boxing stadium with open aired bar area on the ground floor and large amphitheatre that surrounds the ring on the first. The bar area itself boats 4 large beer bars: Lucky Bar, Casanova’s bar, B1-Bar and Koala Aussie’s Bar. All bars are well lit with plenty of pretty “hostesses” to ensure you find what you are looking for. Here you can have a few drinks while you wait for the fights to start.

The second floor of Bangla Boxing Stadium is where all the magic happens! Here you will find a large brightly lit area with comfortable seats that encase the boxing ring and staggered from the front all the way up to the back of the walls. The seats are sectioned off into 3 areas: VIP that are the first row around the ring, Ring Side that make up half the seats from the front to the back and finally Stadium that comprise the remaining seats. All seats are arranged in a way that no matter where you sit you are guaranteed a great view of the action.

As you settle in to watch the fight you are surrounded by the hypnotic sounds of Sarama, the traditional Muay-Thai music that ignites both the crowd and the fighters. Before each fight a pre-fight ritual dance called Wai Kru Ram Muay is performed to honour and pay respect to the fighters’ trainers and coaches. The fights start with the youngest class of fighters which is a mix of both foreign and Thai boxers ranging from age 12 and up, and as the night goes on the matches get more and more intense until the end of the night when the final fight occurs. This fight usually features national and international fighters who are well trained and fight for prizes, title and ranking on the Thai Boxing scene.

Fights occur 3 times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Ticket prices range from 1,700 baht per person to 2,500. The events are always well organized and the staff are both friendly and welcoming. So if you find yourself in Patong on a Friday night with nothing to do, head on down to the Bangla Boxing Stadium and take in a piece of Thai culture in the form of Muay-Thai.
