Rang Island

Rang Island, Phuket
Rang Island (Koh Rang) refers to two islands, Koh Rang Yai (Rang big) and Koh Rang Noi (Rang small). They sit just about 5 kilometers (3 miles) east of Phuket Island’s east coast near the Royal Phuket Marina. Both of these islands are little-used. Although, tour boats may stop for a quick swim, snorkel, or beach walk and exploration of the Rang Yai Island. There are a few little beach bars as well as one restaurant where you can sit and enjoy a cocktail.

Koh Rang Yai is shaped like a C and covered by a dense forest. If you could walk through it, a walk from end to end would take you on a two kilometers trek. There are, however, some sandy areas, including a one-kilometer (not very wide) stretch of sand down the west side. Suitable for a walk. The water is usually clean, and the snorkeling is fair for beginners. Unfortunately, there are not enough submerged shallow area rocks, so people get bored quickly unless they’re at the bar. Therefore, the stopover is usually short and the last one!

Koh Rang Noi is just 300 meters away to the northeast and is a much smaller island, at around 370-meters-long and 220 meters at its widest point. The island has a couple of private homes on it and some sandy beaches.

You can easily access Koh Rang Yai from the public boat pier in front of Baan Yamu near COMO Point. Local longtail boats will ferry you to the island and back for quite a reasonable price.
