Promthep Cape in Phuket

While there are many stunning views and lookout points all across Phuket, there is one that stands out from the rest: Promthep Cape is one of the most popular and frequented spots in all of Phuket. Its lure of spectacular sunsets has hundreds of visitors flocking there nightly to try to catch that breathtaking pic, as the sun quietly slips below the darkened waters of the Andaman Sea. Known best for its panoramic views of the neighboring Phi Phi and Koh Racha Island, this unique little cape offers so much more than what they can see.

Also known as Laem Phra Chao (or God’s Cape), Promthep Cape is located on Phuket’s southernmost point heading from Kata to Rawai Beach. While most do come for the amazing photo opportunities at sunset, there are so many more reasons to visit. One of the most unique features of the cape is the historic lighthouse, The Golden Jubilee Lighthouse, ripe with maritime artifacts and excellent perspectives of the east and southeast of Phuket’s enthralling landscape. The observation balcony also boasts great views of the nearby Koh Miaow and its Buddhist monastery.

One of the most noteworthy aspects of the cape is that of the elephant shrine, encircled with elephants of all shapes and sizes as well as in many different forms such as wood and painted concrete. Thai visitors often bring carved elephants to pay homage to Brahma, the Hindu god of creation in which the cape is named after. Tourists are welcomed to come and light incense and make their own offerings, but please remember to remove your shoes before entering.

Where to eat in Promthep Cape?

Not too far away is the aptly named Promthep Cape Restaurant. Towering above the rocky headlands of the cape, the restaurant boasts the same breathtaking views and sunsets as that of the cape. With a large menu filled with both local and international cuisine at reasonable prices, the restaurant is rated one of Phuket’s top dining places with a view. What better way to end your day than sipping a cold drink and enjoying the cool breeze, while the smell of freshly prepared seafood surrounds you.
