Naka Noi Island

Naka Noi Island is on the east side of Phuket Island. This is a small island measuring only about one kilometer long and 250 meters wide at its widest point. Naka Noi Island has almost 2.6 km. of coastline, and just 250,000 Sq. m. of land area.

Naka Noi Island is part of Phuket Province and is only 3 km. away at its closest point, and 5 km. from Bang Rong Pier in Phuket. Sister island, Naka Yai, is less than 1 km. to the north, and Khao Yao Noi is about 8 km. to the east.

The coasts are generally rocky, but the west and northwest coasts have a lovely white-sand beach. Boats are usually anchored off-shore here and, for the size of the island, it’s a rather popular destination for people staying in Phuket. Both Naka Noi and Naka Yai are covered with trees; and while there are no roads or paths on Naka Noi, Naka Yai has paths leading from one side of the island to the other.

Reaching Naka Island from Phuket is not difficult. You can simply take a long tail boat for ten minutes on the water from the Bang Rong Pier on the east side of the Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Sanctuary. You should know that the waves can be large and prohibit long tail boats from traversing the ocean frequently during May to October.

Because Naka Noi Island doesn’t have any accommodation or restaurants, it is seen as the ideal place to go and relax for a few hours on the lovely beach. If you want to get some great seafood to eat, you can make a stop at Naka Yai Island, a short trip by long tail.

This is another one of those beaches you can make a trip to any day with a picnic in tow, along with your snorkel gear and make a day of it. If you’re doing a lot of snorkeling, it probably pays to buy a nice set of gear to keep rental costs down.
