Coconut Island

Just north of Phuket Town is a large 3.5 x 1.5 kilometer island called Coconut Island (Koh Maprao).

For a place to stay, you should pre-book The Village at Coconut Island with its 500 meters of private beachfront. This lovely and impressively large resort is on a secluded beach on Phang Nga Bay with expansive views. They offer one and two-bedroom suites and, if you have more people or want more privacy, you can opt for a villa with two to five bedrooms, in-room kitchens and private pools or hot tubs. Sleeping arrangements for one to ten people. Because the resort is right here, you can arrange activities and excursions from their booking agent on-site. For the water activities you can rent catamarans, small boats, paddleboards and windsurfing equipment. Land activities include mountain biking, volleyball and tennis. There is an air-conditioned gym where Muay Thai lessons can be taken. Massage and other beauty treatments are also available. If you want to go off-island, there is a full range of activities available including private boats to other islands or any and all sightseeing options on Phuket Island.

There are a couple of restaurants to try on Coconut Island. One is the Tamarind Restaurant which serves various dishes from the countries of Asia as well as some international dishes. If pizza is your preference, the wood-fired oven of Coco restaurant in the ‘village’ area will be your dinner spot.

You can reach Coconut island yourself by taking a vehicle from anywhere on the Island of Phuket to Laem Hin Seafood where the Laem Hin Pier is located right on the east coast. From there, it’s just a five-minute longtail boat (water taxi service) to the Coconut island. Boats are readily available there and they will take you to one of the piers on Coconut Island, depending where you’re going and how high the water is according to the tide schedule. If there are no boats there when you arrive, people at the pier will call one for you. Once you are staying at the resort, the water taxi service is included in your daily rate.
