Read Introduction
What is Reiki? Is it available in Phuket? You’ve almost surely heard the word by now, but you may still be unclear on what it’s all about. Here’s an overview.
Reiki is pronounced "ray-kee". Two words made up from "Rei" the higher power, and "Ki" which is the life force energy in all of us. The therapy was developed in Japan as a way of reducing stress and promoting wellness, healing and relaxation. Some call it healing with the hands. It is based on the idea that in each of us is a life force which is invisible and yet very powerful. When this force is out of balance – we are out of balance and don’t feel right. We don’t feel 100%. We feel stressed or ill. When our life force energy is high – we have endless energy, health, happiness, etc.
A treatment affects body, mind, emotions, spiritual outlook and satisfaction. The feelings after a good treatment in Phuket is almost other-worldly and surreal.
What does a Reiki treatment consist of?
Many hand positions are performed – either touching the body or within about an inch of the body. There are positions where hands are placed over the face, on the upper breasts, lower breasts and even forming a "T" with the hands with one hand between the breasts and one above. There are hand positions over the hip bones and even the pelvis. One Reiki therapist recommended two to five minutes in each position.
Reiki is not common in Thailand, but there are some mostly foreign practitioners you can visit if you think it’s something that could help you.
Monica Sanhueza is a Reiki master in Phuket, and can give private sessions in Phuket Town. Her email is: Flacu40@yahoo.com.
In Rawai Beach is the Atmanjai Wellness Spa and Atsumi Healing Center, and they are said to practice Reiki healing for their guests.
