Surin

Surin is a small village in the sub-district of Cherngtalay, Thalang District. It is on the western side of Phuket and boasts one the main tourist beaches on the island. The village of Surin is only small with many hotels, convenience stores, massage parlours and boutique like shops selling beach apparel, packed in side by side along the main road like a little toy village. Because of the high end resorts and houses dotted along Surin Beach the village has a wealthy tenor. While it is not uncommon to see foreigners walking the streets during high season, it is mostly dominated by locals all year round. Surin is home to a wide array of restaurants with cuisine from all over the world including Italy, France and Germany, however if you are looking for some real mom and pop authentic Thai food, this is the place to be. With small Thai restaurants and food stalls as far as the eye can see you are guaranteed to find your "favorite" local dish while exploring this village. If you are driving through this bustling little village between dusk and dawn do not be surprised if you hear majestic sound of the "Salat" coming from the loud speakers at the nearby mosque. While Surin does not have as large a Muslim community as Bangtao, it is home to the Mukaram Mosque, one of Phuket's largest mosques.
