Chalong

Chalong is a sub-district in the south of Phuket, it is one of eight sub-districts in the district of Mueang, Phuket. It is a unique combination of a port, a residential area and shopping hub. This is the most spiritual part of the island where the striking hilltop Big Buddha and the beautiful ornate Wat Chalong can be found. Located in the centre of Phuket, it offers some of the best tourist spots, attractions and shopping experiences. Here you will find the Pearl Art Factory, the Porosus Exoctic Leather Shop, the Thai Silk Collection and the Chalong Night Market. Hiding within this colourful city's limits you'll find the Botanic Gardens with its rare plant species and unique displays, second only to the wonders of the exotic flora and beautiful worldly birds at Phuket Bird Show. If you're looking for something a little more entertaining you can always pop into Two Nines Mini Golf Club to practice your skills on 18 felt covered holes or race your friends in the exhilarating 2 stroke go-karts at Phuket Shooting Range and Speedway. Chalong Bay is situated along the east coast shoreline where the muddy waters are not ideal for swimming but perfect for mooring yachts and boats. The most noticeable feature is the 720m long by 7m wide jetty which is used as a departure point for day trips to the surrounding islands like Koh Phi Phi. It is also the main port for private and commercial boats who enter Thailand and as such there are plenty of restaurants, shops, souvenir stands, tourist information kiosks, parking area and open-air waiting areas to accommodate the people passing through. There is also customs, immigration and harbour masters service to assist incoming vessels wishing to moor and a brand new marine rescue centre.
