There are those of you who cannot go to any fitness centers other than “GOLD’S” or some other major brand. For you, it will be easy to find out if ‘your gym’ exists in Phuket, or not. There is a Gold’s gym on “Rural Road” in Patong Beach – also known as “Third Road.” This is the road that runs parallel to Beach Road and Ratuthit Songroipi Roads. Gold’s of course has a full compliment of free-weights, and that’s what they focus on, but there are also dozens of machines and equipment to help you work out in whatever way you choose. Free-weight gyms are not all that popular among Thais, so you won't find all that many of them here on Phuket, like you might find in Long Beach, California. Visitors to Phuket too seem to choose other forms of fitness. Lifting dumbbells is just so HARD, isn’t it? Heh-heh… Not really our first choice either. Can you guess what the major form of fitness center in Phuket is? Muay Thai gyms, of course! There are plenty to choose from! Why Muay Thai gyms for your fitness needs though? First, it’s a hell of a lot more fun than just swinging dumbbells from your swelled-up arms. Muay Thai training involves the entire body, and your mind as well. There’s little you’re doing for your mind lifting barbells. Muay Thai is not only for fitness, but it is something of a social event as well because you can usually either meet people at the gym, or talk one of your friends into going to train with you at the gym? Why? It sounds cool! Muay Thai combines rugged fitness training like push ups, pull ups, jogging, as well as punching bags and learning very specific movements for striking with your feet, knees, elbows, and fists. You don’t have to worry about not being able to kick up over your head, few people can do that! You can just enjoy training as much as you want, and don’t have to worry about attaining the flexibility and strength that pro Muay Thai boxers have. You don’t even have to fight anyone if you don’t want to! So, whether you want to hack away at the gym and see how many kilograms you can lift, or you’d have a better time swinging away at a heavy bag – go and find out which kind of fitness centers agree the most with your needs and get on with it!
