Diving and Snorkelling
Phuket Tourist Information Guide
Read Introduction
Deep sea fishing, a day cruise on a catamaran, or diving and snorkelling in Phuket – life is full of tough choices, isn’t it?
Two of the most popular activities in Phuket are diving and snorkelling. Phuket, Krabi, and Phang Nga have some great diving and snorkelling spots and many people when they plan their vacations, choose Phuket over the others because the nightlife and variety of things to do is just so overwhelming in Phuket.
All diving boats leave from Chalong Harbor in Phuket. Diving spots around Phuket are typically 18-30 meters deep and are fun for everyone. There are some boat wrecks, limestone walls, and coral to explore.
Sea life around Phuket is diverse with many tropical fish and even seahorses are seen on occasion. Rare species like manta rays, whale sharks, and leopard sharks are sometimes seen, so bringing an underwater camera is a must for your dives. You don’t want to miss the chance of a lifetime to get a selfie with a whale shark – do ya?
H2O Sportz offers boat trips out to Hin Deang, Koh Kai, Koh Phi Phi Islands, Koh Waeo, Racha, Shark Point, Similan Islands, Surin, and some other Phuket locations.
Sea Beas has been voted the “Best Dive Center in Southeast Asia” ten times, winning the Golden Dolphin Award over hundreds of other dive shops.
Snorkelling is best around the islands just off Phuket. Koh Phi Phi in Krabi province and the Similan Islands just north are probably the two best spots in the region. There is an immense variety of small fish in the shallows and around the coral. Snorkelling in Phuket is ideal for kids and adults alike! Beginning snorkellers – and kids – will find Ao Sane Beach absolutely insane for snorkelling. It is shallow enough to stand and snorkel, good for building confidence before going out in the open water. Highly recommended for families!
Half, full-day and overnight diving tours are possible with most of the dive companies doing diving and snorkelling in Phuket. We have links to some of the better-known dive shops in Phuket on the following pages.
